Snowday I

Yesterday I was all excited that there was going to be a nice thunderstorm. I was starting to see a little green grass, it smelled like rain, I was wearing short sleeves...

And then this happened. School was canceled today and for tomorrow. Spring will never arrive, I guess. I'll have to find something to do with my time while I'm stuck inside. God knows I can't do homework.

snowday II

So this is what I become when I have a snow day. Dress up, tarot card readings, scrabble and tater tots. I can't be left to my own devices or this is what happens.

George as a scuba diver and a uh..... a cowboy ukulele player, I guess. I think one of these needs to appear on a Christmas card.

Whenever I clean up, a comment is made along the lines of "if you did that in some heels and pearls..." so I did. Next, if I was a dude, this is the dude I'd be. More badass, I assume. If I ever had senior pictures taken of me, it would be the one of me doing the dishes. It just sends the message "Hey, I am a serious student, and I am here to learn."

Kodachrome

Gives me those nice bright colors, gives me the greeeens of summer, makes me think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah.
Yellow. This is a broken house (note the woman's suit nailed to the door???) in a town that I believe is overrun with zombies. Crookston, Nebraska. An abandoned school, creepy houses, no humans in sight... This is where the zombie infestation will begin Mark my words.

Green. Equally creepy town of Kilgore, Nebraska. It's the nearest place to get booze from the rez. I just think this car and that house were meant to be together.

Brown. While hanging out on the scaffolding at the church, there are only so many things to photograph, and I already have about 1,000 photos of George at work, so I started looking other details to capture.

Leilani

This is Leilani. She is 7 and is one of my religious education students. I gave her my camera during St. Patrick's Day Mass in Spring Creek, and this is what she came up with. What a cool little girl.

Every class now, I have given the camera to one of my students. They do see things differently, that's for sure, and they are much more proud of their work than anyone else I know.

chuuuurch

I took the scanner cam into the Church and this is what I came up with. I found an empty frame in the balcony and tried to make it work, but it'll take more doing. In other news, I climbed up on 17-foot scaffolding and almost cried I was so nervous. Those pictures are to come.

learning the 10 commandments

This week we taught the 10 commandments. You wanna see a room full of 4th graders crack up? Explain to them what "adultery" means. I have found that works well.

I only got to teach two days this week, and that really bummed me out. I complain all the time about the kids who drive me crazy, but they are practically the only people I see on a daily basis.

This one was taken by one of the students. She is brilliant.

Moonrise over the mission

I have to start submitting photos to the Web site guy in Milwaukee, and I don't know which night photo to give. Which one do you like?

Coming to you live from KINI

Sunday was my first day at the radio station. I played oldies and classic rock for four hours. I was suuuper nervous, but I got the hang of it. I was dancing and singing along to all the tunes i was playing, and I was terrified that I would accidentally leave my mic on and everyone would hear me rocking out.

Here's some of what I played on my first day... excellent.

In other news, I found the back room at the station, and it is filled with dusty stacks of old records that they never use. They don't even have a turn table, so the manager said I could borrow whatever I wanted. What was the first record I went for...?

RICK ASTLEY, sucka. I couldn't help myself.

Time for a change

The Rooms and I got our ears lowered this weekend... apparently the only thing Rapid City is good for. Fresh new haircut... that makes everything feel a little better, like a new pair of socks or something.

I also got a great new Everly Brothers record.

Good for what ails ya

Here are two of my favorite things. Bound to make you feel good in any situation any time of day.

WHEN i finally live on my own, in my tiny house or tipi or whatever I decide, I think the only essentials in my fridge will be dabbie and brews. Other than mac and cheese, I can't think of any other essentials. So... you're welcome over any time, but don't expect anything else out of me, because that's all you get. Hopefully I'll live near a McDonald's.

Lazy Sunday

Nothing much to speak of. I read "Watchmen" while George worked in the Church. All in all a slow weekend. I got to see an actual belfry, which makes me feel all cool and old-timey.

In other news, I'm writing my first story, editing video and whatnot. I turn 21 in 40 days. Before that there is the Watchmen" movie and St. Paddy's Day, so there are a few key moments to look forward to before the big day.
